Alinksy? Meet Rommel

The Tea Party has been using Alinsky tactics for the better part of a year now, and you can see that it is driving the left crazy.
Know Thine Enemy
It is an irony of the current skirmishing about health care that those who could be considered Mr. Alinsky’s sworn enemies — the groups, many industry sponsored, who are trying to shout down Congressional town hall meetings — have taken a page (chapters, really) from his handbook on community organizing.
Read this as the equivalent to the scene in Patton where Gen. Patton exclaims "Rommel! You magnificent bastard! I read your book!" 
The disruption of the town hall meetings has many Alinsky trademarks: using spectacle to make up for lack of numbers; targeting an individual to make a large point; and trying to use ridicule to persuade the undecided. 
Well, the left certainly has not given up ridicule as a form of persuasion, but lately their ridicule is sounding more establishment.
Mr. Alinsky observes that “any effective means is automatically judged by the opposition as being unethical”:
We are seeing a lot of that. The recent false accusations about Tea Party violence, or accusations of just not being nice and civilized people is exactly what Saul was talking about. And now, with 40 years of documented history where the left used the exact same tactics, what are they to do?

The Tea Party has adopted many Alinsky tactics and used them successfully. They are having trouble with this one though. Me included.

Don’t worry, Mr. Alinsky advised, if they call you names:
The job of the organizer is to maneuver and bait the establishment so that it will publicly attack him as a “dangerous enemy.” ... Here again we find that it is power and fear that are essential to the development of faith. This need is met by the establishment’s use of the brand “dangerous,” for in that one word the establishment reveals its fear of the organizer, its fear that he represents a threat to its omnipotence. Now the organizer has his “birth certificate” and can begin.

The administration is dancing around branding the Tea Party because they know this rule. Obama is an Alinsky disciple as close as Peter was to Jesus, but his congressional allies have had no problem branding the Tea Party as dangerous. I guess this is the curse of being in power. Of being the establishment. There is no documented defense to Alinsky's tactics.

But here is their real problem

Find a single person to focus your energies on:
The Tea Party does not have a single person that they can focus on. They are trying hard to pin it all on Sarah Palin, but it's not working. She's a Tea Party supporter, not a Tea Party leader.
It should be borne in mind that the target is always trying to shift responsibility to get out of being the target. There is a constant squirming and moving and strategy — purposeful, and malicious at times, other times just for straight self-survival — on the part of the designated target. The forces of change must keep this in mind and pin that target down securely.

On the other hand, there are plenty of targets in the administration. Van Jones is gone. Anita Done is gone.

The tables are turned, and so far the lefts best hope has been that the Tea Party can't go that last mile and truly embrace the dark side of the force. The dark side that gives the left the ability to deceive and to disconnect from conscience. The right abdicated to the howls of the left when the threat of the nuclear option was considered. An attempt to side step a filibuster. All the while I screamed at the TV "Do it! They would do it to you!" and now they have.

Does the Tea Party have the intestinal fortitude to do to others what has been done to them?

.....But Those Tea Party people are Coo-koo Coo-koo.

It's so funny to sit back and watch the full court press attempt to smear the tea party movement as a wholesale subsidiary of the Timothy McVeigh right wing equivalent to the weather underground.

And as I mentioned in previous posts, the left is desperate to shut the Tea Party up. That 'hate Bush' stuff was way too effective so letting the Tea Party alter the thinking of American independents is not an option.

It is mind boggling how revisionist history these people can be!

“the left doesn’t just try to drown out with noisemakers,” Wrong! Think of the code pink Bush days. Standing up and shouting down senate hearings. Nice try. I’m sure you took delight at their efforts while hypocritically decrying the same tactics used by the other side.
And where are those wrinkly code pink hags today? I mean here we are with a president who got elected on a promise to withdraw troops immediately, the very issue that doomed Hillary, here we are with record casualties in Afghanistan, and yet there are really no Code Pink protests anymore? What happened to the anti-war movement? Hell, just yesterday Obama snuck into Afghanistan and gave a speech that would have made Patton pee his pants. The Commander in Chief is full on warrior now. Surges rock!

It is extremely telling how Code Pink protesters could be dragged out of Senate hearings and some how no one thought that it was a threatening, terroristic, or a shout down disruptive event. Not in a negative sentiment anyways. But, when average Americans show up to yell about their displeasure in a public park, it's a scary omen.

No one with any brain is buying this. And that is why it has been so easy for the left to adopt.

Well ok. The civil war did not start.......yet. But the inflammatory rhetoric from last week makes one wonder if it is far off.
Americans hope President-elect Barack Obama "can work miracles," he wrote. "But when spring comes, it will be clear that there are no miracles."
I guess he got that one right. Spring has sprung and behold, there have been no miracles. The corrupt swamp that is DC has not been drained, the lobbyists have not been banished as promised, and the covenant of a new bipartisan era has been broken.
People like him have forecast similar cataclysms before, he says, and been right. He cites French political scientist Emmanuel Todd. Mr. Todd is famous for having rightly forecast the demise of the Soviet Union -- 15 years beforehand. "When he forecast the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1976, people laughed at him," says Prof. Panarin.

I'm not calling him crazy.

Manufactured Violence

The administration has given the order to crush the Tea Party. Shut them up so we can have a chance to make Americans forget about the health care betrayal before November. They know that this kind of grass roots effort can be very effective. They know how valuable the 'hate Bush' fervor was for them. Remember back then? You could not turn a corner without running into some red faced, bush effigy carrying, Haliburton stammering lunatic. It was effective because even if you did not hate Bush, it made it hard to forget some of the really stupid things he did. Well, the Obots cannot let that happen, so they are demonizing the Tea Party by trying to associate them in their entirety with a few crazy people.

I hope they catch the people who made threats. I am betting there is a good chance that they are democrats. Democrat on democrat violence in order to frame the Tea Party. What? Conspiracy theory you say? Sorry, we've seen this movie before.

Remember the militant gay democratic party volunteer? The one that used a hammer to break the windows of the Democratic party headquarters in Colorado?


When the left commits violence its a lone wolf loon who is to blame. If a lone wolf loon on the other side does wrong, well then the entire opposition is violent and they should shut up and stop opposing socialism. There is nothing, no dirty trick, no ethical boundary, and no violent act that would stop Obama supporters from trying to shut down and marginalize the Tea Party.

They just want them to shut up!

Like minded = televangelism?

Frank Thomas is always an amusing read. I read the Wall Street Journal everyday (as well as other media outlets) and I read his weekly column regularly. The guy is such a partisan hack! But hey, you have to give the Journal credit for allowing a far left voice on its pages. Otherwise people who only read the Journal would not understand the thought process that has led us to upside down world.

I was glad to see that Mr. Thomas finally went to a Tea Party. He has been whining and ridiculing the Tea Party movement since it's inception.

Every week the column is a hurl of insults and name calling, the likes of which if attempted from the other side of the Tilting Yard it would be called hate speech.
But it's fair to ask just how much that sort of politics matters to conservatives anymore. After all, the right-wing populist ground swell that has dominated the scene for the past few months doesn't seem to be driven by the logic of legislative effectiveness.
I love this line. Legislative effectiveness. What a beautifully put, politically correct, term for 'bend over, this might hurt' he has coined! And really, I wonder if back when the Republicans were considering the so called 'Nuclear Option' in considering the side step of filibusters for judicial appointments, if he would have considered that 'legislative effectiveness'.
What it craves are exaggerated moral showdowns and superhuman ideological feats. And in its mind the health-care bill was magnified from a feeble compromise into a baby-slaughtering, communist power grab.
Well, he is onto something here. The Republicans do believe that an exaggerated moral showdown can work, mostly because they were stupid enough to fall for it when the democrats howled over the 'nuclear option'. I screamed at the TV at that time "Hell yeah! do it! They would do it to you if they had the chance!", and now they have. I do hope that someday the Republicans or the Tea Party or whoever the anti-democrat, anti-socialist, anti-communist opposition is, I hope they learn to adopt Mr. Thomas' concept of iron fisted 'legislative effectiveness'.

and then asked the crowd to choose between sunshiny "freedom" or "the gloomy shadows of some European cynical society."
"Cynical," you see, is what the snake-flag set imagines that it is not. Cynicism is something that other people do, particularly people who live on a smarty-pants continent where they read aristocratic authors, eat snob food, and enjoy access to health care from cradle to grave. 

Another beautiful line. Suddenly the right to healthcare and every other someone else pays for it entitlement is a reality, and the concept of sunshiny 'freedom' is an ideal that belongs with unicorns and fuzzy bunnies.

Glomming on to the cynical thing is a huge stretch. I think that most Tea Party like minded people would say that they are cynical. They are cynical about the lie that this health care bill will reduce the deficit. They are cynical about the lie that this health care bill will reduce their premiums.
Cynics are people who have convinced themselves of the highbrow idea that unregulated self-interest does not always deliver optimal results.
Again, I don't get why Mr. Thomas clings to this cynic thing. Is he trying to expose the blatant shallowness of some speaker who is trying to do some kind of 'hope and change' voodoo on a crowd? Unlike the blind faith partisans of hope and change, I do not believe anyone in the the crowd was screaming 'yeah! down with the cynics!'. They were cynically thinking 'how do you add 30 million new patients, no new doctors, and expect costs to go down?".
I do not fully understand the mechanics by which the great events of recent years—namely, the self-destruction of Wall Street and the presidency of Barack Obama—triggered a mania for Revolutionary War costumes and the high-flown cadences of Jeffersonian English. But that is nevertheless what has happened. Not only do the protesters wave the flags of that era, but they know the quotes as well, shouting out favorite passages from the works of the Founders as they came up in the various speeches, giving the whole thing the air of a TV game show.
um, yeah. You must be right. Trying to shine a light on the ideas and the principles that made this country great is a terrible idea, especially when you are speeding towards socialism! And don't worry Mr. Thomas, if the Texas School book committee gets it's way then it won't be long before no one remembers any Jeffersonian quotes. Which is their goal of course.
These are TV citizens, regurgitating TV history lessons, and engaged in a TV crusade. They seem to care little for the give and take of the legislative process. What seems to make sense to them is the logic of entertainment, the ever-escalating outrage of reality TV.
Wow. How profound. A mass of people being influenced by television. What an evil genius idea! I think Mr. Thomas' ridicule would have been more cutting if he asked the conservatives "what took them so long to figure that out?". Mainstream media has been selling his partisan ideas since Cronkite jumped the shark. Now he's just pissed that the other side has caught on.

Get the other guy to take the high road has been a long standing and effective tactic for the left. I hope the right has figured that out.

This day in history: The Stamp Act

It's almost erie weird that this day in history on March 22nd 1765 that the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act. The piece of legislation that marked the end of colonialism and the beginning of tyranny in North America.

I would like to suppose that adjusted for leap years and atomic minutes and all that other stuff that somehow astrologically speaking there is some connection between the passing of the Stamp Act and the passage of the Obamascare nightmare law.

At a minimum the connection is that both pieces of legislation have made America sit up, pay attention, and determine to take action.

When laws that raise taxes and are passed against the will of the people, and must use parliamentary tricks and illusions, you can rightly suggest that we have reverted to the state of 'taxation without representation'.

A Lost Battle but not a Lost War

It ain't over until the fat lady sings.

Don't despair you tea party yankee doodles! On August 27, 1776 the first battle after the Declaration of Independence the first official battle of the revolution was fought. Gen. George Washington was trying to defend New York City. Out numbered 2 to 1 and strategically out flanked Gen. Washington ultimately had to cede New York City to the British. It could have been worse.
On August 22, the British landed on Long Island, across the The Narrows from Staten Island, and across the East River from Manhattan. After five days of waiting, the British attacked American defenses on the Guana (Gowanus) Heights. Unknown to the Americans, however, Howe had brought his main army around their rear and attacked their flank soon after. The Americans panicked, although a stand by 250 Maryland troops prevented most of the army from being captured. The remainder of the army fled to the main defenses on Brooklyn Heights. The British dug in for a siege but, on the night of August 29–30, Washington evacuated the entire army to Manhattan without the loss of materiel or a single life. Washington and the Continental Army were driven out of New York entirely after several more defeats and forced to retreat through New Jersey and into Pennsylvania.
Thanks to the 'Marbleheaders' the continental army lived to fight another day, and ultimately be victorious in what appeared to be an impossible struggle. The book '1776' by David McCullough provides the best depiction of this battle that I have ever read. I recommend the book highly. But I digress.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. There are more skirmishes to be had. And even if they pass their cherished bill, there is still time and opportunity to change the tide of war. In order to cast the illusion of deficit neutrality they had to put off some of the benefits until after this presidents first term. This November could be the equivalent of the 'Crossing of the Delaware' and the election of 2012 will hopfully be Yorktown

Another Brick in the Wall

At 4:23pm Saturday March 20th the president was still taking his victory lap. Even though the vote has not been taken, apparently some of the hostages being held in secret have given their pledge. The health care bill is a done deal. And 'No Drama Obama' is laying it on thick.

He actually called it a middle of the road bill? Mainly because it's not a single payer solution. I'm sure the insurance companies are thankful for not having the knife poked directly into their hearts. But it will be a slow agonizing death that is in store for them.

He went to also state that Republican ideas had been rejected by economists. Really? No. Not really. Another lie. Milton Friedman warned us about the dangers of soviet style medicine.

In this last ditch play he stated "Good policy is good politics". And then, only a few breaths and a few paragraphs later he told the crowd of gathered faithful that he knew this was a 'tough vote' and went on to say "I can't guarantee this good politics" to vote for this bill. Really? Then ipso fact this is bad policy? isn't it?

It was like watching a murderer whispering sweet nothings into the victim he is strangling.

As I write this Nancy Pelosi is walking a precession into the capitol building holding that big ass gavel.

Legislation or Prestidigitation?

Using reconciliation to pass a bill that will affect 20% of the economy is an obscene and gross miss use of what reconciliation was designed to do. Reconciliation has never been used on such large expenditure. Reconciliation has never passed a bill on a pure partisan vote. It was meant for budgetary deficit reducing efforts. Not social programs and entitlements. Reconciliation in the case of Obamacare is a perversion of the legislative process. But hey? If they can pass the Senate bill as is, then it is a tool that is available. Instead of bending the spending curve, they are bending the rules.

But wait! They can't pass the Senate bill as is, and therefore reconciliation is not a tool available to them!

But the show must go on, and Ms. Pelosi is determined to pull this rabbit out of her ass.

Republicans Battle Pelosi Over Plan to Pass Health Bill Without Traditional Vote

Problem is, the House must pass the Senate bill in order to move on to the package of changes intended to correct all the things about the Senate bill that House members don't like. 
Enter the Pelosi tactic, known as a "self-executing rule." 
Under this tactic, the House could simultaneously approve the Senate version of the bill while voting on the package of changes. This would "deem" the Senate bill passed, though not directly show members voting in favor of passage. 

While rare, deeming a bill passed is not a new invention, but like reconciliation it has never been used on such a Mammoth, historic, and widely hated piece of legislation.

Both processes taken alone can be viewed as parliamentarian trickery. But together? Well, it's never been done, and it is an anti-democratic power grab. Heck! It's like a Bolshevik plot!

Nancy Pelosi is telling cameras that this process has been used 'hundreds of times'. This is not true for either mechanism and it's certainly not true in the case of a deemed bill then going through the reconciliation process. In fact, as stated previously, it's never been done!

This isn't just about health care anymore, this about preserving Madison's checks and balances and preserving the democratic process as defined by the constitution. Bolshevism used the democratic process to destroy the democratic process, and that is exactly what is happening here!

Bolshevik Plot

It sure is starting to sound like a Bolshevik plot to me!

The Bolsheviks, founded by Vladimir Lenin, were an organization of professional revolutionaries under a democratic internal hierarchy governed by the principle of democratic centralism, who considered themselves as the vanguard of the revolutionary working class of Russia. Their beliefs and practices were often referred to as Bolshevism.
So Obama does not believe that he and his majority are the vanguard of the working class? I mean he has literally surrounded himself with professional revolutionaries, and he is one himself.



Mayby it's an unfair comparison. I mean it's not like he intends to abuse the democratic process in order to ram through entitlements that will fundamentally transform this government? Right?



But I could be wrong.

You Lie!

Desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose.  In today's weekly address we heard the president spin a pretty picture of his health plan, but he had to play fast and loose with truths to do it.
Now, despite all the progress and improvements we’ve made, Republicans in Congress insist that the only acceptable course on health care is to start over.  But you know what?  The insurance companies aren’t starting over.  I just met with some of them on Thursday and they couldn’t give me a straight answer as to why they keep arbitrarily and massively raising premiums 
That's pretty disingenuous, or at least playing very stupid. Insurers that are losing money get their rate increases approved by state regulators. There is nothing arbitrary about it. And if it's massive, then it's massive because of state requirements that make demands on the insurance company.


The WellPoint Mugging
The brawl over rate increases is a preview of ObamaCare.


WellPoint's California unit, Anthem Blue Cross, recently informed nearly 700,000 individual insurance customers of premium increases of up to 39%. President Obama jumped on the announcement, claiming in a pre-Superbowl TV interview that the hikes were a "portrait of the future if we don't do something now."
Wellpoint's rate hikes are the direct result of the Golden State's insurance regulations—the kind that Democrats want to impose on all 50 states. Under federal Cobra rules, the unemployed are allowed to keep their job-related health benefits for 18 to 36 months. California then goes further and bars Anthem from dropping these customers even after they have exhausted Cobra. California also caps what Anthem can charge these post-Cobra customers.

This explains why Anthem lost $58 million in California on its post-Cobra customers in 2009. If WellPoint didn't raise premiums amid these losses, it would soon be under assault from its shareholders, if not out of business.
Over and over again there are examples of where the types of regulations that Obama wants to impose on everybody are already raising the costs of health care. Not reducing the costs.




In the weekly address he goes on to say
The proposal we’ve put forward would end the worst practices of the insurance industry, lower costs for millions of Americans, and give uninsured individuals and small businesses the same kind of choice of private health insurance that Members of Congress get for themselves
Not really. It will either raise costs, or put insurance companies out of business. He is hoping for out of business, because then the government will have to step in with the single payer plan.
What won’t change when this bill is signed this:  if you like the insurance plan you have now, you can keep it.  If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.  Because nothing should get in the way of the relationship between a family and their doctor.  
Not true either. He already inadvertantly revealed this lie a week ago at the health care summit he held at Blair House.

So much for "If you like your plan............."

on February 25th, the president admitted he lied about being able to keep your plan, if you like it.

Defining ObamaCare Down

One fact is that the Congressional Budget Office estimates that premiums in the individual market would jump by 10% to 13% in 2016 because the government will mandate that consumers buy richer benefits than they otherwise would. Mr. Obama eventually conceded that point but said these mandates are simple consumer protections. "Yes, I am paying 10% to 13% more because instead of buying an apple, I'm getting an orange," Mr. Obama said. "We want competition, we just want some minimum standards."
Whoop there it is........
So to paraphrase "If you like your apple, you'll have to eat this orange". Great. Thanks.
And finally he finishes with:
And so I ask Congress to finish its work.  I ask them to give the American people an up or down vote. 
To which I say yes! Do it! But do it now! Do it Next week! Don't wait until you've paid everyone off. Don't wait until you've threatened or leveraged people to change to votes against their conscience. This is yet another moment of naive bravado. Without more dirty tricks and more Chicago style corruption he does not have the votes, even though the democrats have openly gamed the system.

Tom Brokaw: Worst Generation

I have a lot of respect for Tom Brokaw. He is the guy who wrote the book and coined the phrase "The greatest Generation". In my opinion it was a great historical piece and I read like to think I read more history books than the average bear.

Yesterday I exposed my distaste and personal opinion that by and large the baby boomer generation is a bunch of spoiled hypocrites who are more concerned about getting their way than with anything else. 'Politically Correct' speaking is a favorite of their's mainly because they get their way and bully you into using one term instead of another term. Gay Marriage is a good example. They want to take away the word that means 'Committed to a partner of the opposite sex'. But that is a post for another day. I digress.

Mr Brokaw's evaluation, and documentation of the generation that fought World War II gives him the credentials of a real historian. So, it it is with bated breath that I watch Mr Brokaw's show tonight at 9pm on CNBC. I have to admit that I am skeptical that someone of a generation that he or she is part of can have a critical view of it. It is my expectation that this is really just and advertisement for their secret dream of socialism, and part of their secret fist bump rituals done in between smoking joints.

I think he'll be talking about a generation arriving to the promised land, thanks to Barrack Obama.

Will he explore the GenX and GenY point view?

Will he explore the Baby Boomer hypocrisy?

  • "Drugs were so cool! But you shouldn't do them.
  • Violence and protests really made us feel like we were being heard, but you Tea Party people are scaring the crap out of us!

It is my guess that this is a kamikaze mission similar to that happening in congress. He will be using sentimental warm and touchy feely images to peel away some of the boomers who are scared stiff about Obamacare.

It will be interesting to see.

The Worst Generation

I got the inspiration for this post at one of my favorite blogs.

He quotes a Roll Call post.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) warned Monday afternoon that debt crises like the one gripping Greece will inevitably hit the United States if leaders fail to cut deficits, and he urged Republicans to join President Barack Obama’s fiscal commission and develop a package of budget cuts and revenue hikes by the end of the year.
Then it goes on to say
“I hope Congressional Republicans will take the work as sincerely and seriously as the [commission’s] chairmen take it, that they will come to the table without preconditions, ready to contribute their ideas and not just their criticism from the sideline,” Hoyer said.
And......

Hoyer urged Republicans to be open to revenue hikes, not just budget cuts, to reach a compromise.
“If need be, I am hopeful that both parties will agree to look at revenues as part of the solution — not as a gateway to higher spending, but as part of a compromise that cuts spending and balances the budget,” Hoyer said.

and get ready for it........
Hoyer said a higher retirement age as well as adjusting Medicare and Social Security benefits to make them more progressive could also be part of a deal.
Whoa!

Is it upside down world or what?

The Baby Boomers were the children of the greatest generation, and since the 60's they have turned out to be the worst generation!

The tree hugging hippies are so bent on their 60's commune ideals that they are willing to take the security blanket mechanism created by their parents and turn it into a redistribution of wealth program!

The hypocrites who would not trust anyone over 30 are really socking it to everyone younger than 45.

They have to be the most selfish generation right?

Here are the new rules. Unless they are a tea party member, don't trust anyone over 45. And next year? Unless they are a tea party member, don't trust anyone over 46. And the year after that?  Unless they are a tea party member, don't trust anyone over 47.

If we can survive these bastards we can get back to being America again.

Buh-Bye Baby Boomers. Don't let the coffin lid hit you in the ass!

Pelosi Courts the Tea Party?

It was pretty unbelievable. I practically fell off of my couch when I heard it.

Pelosi says GOP has hijacked 'tea party' movement

OK, first I have to deal with the title of this piece. "Pelosi says GOP has hijacked 'tea party' movement". What? Are you kidding me? After an all out assault, and the overt alienation of the movement she now wants to portray her lack of attention and her lack of interaction with the voice of real Americans as another right wing conspiracy?

This is flabbergasting! Some people really have no shame! Or, maybe it is a mental disorder. I understand that congenital liars don't really understand or think they are lying.  I mean it was just a few months ago where she was sniffing and crying crocodile tears over her fear of the fake / violent Tea Party people. She did not believe the Tea Party was a real movement. She described the grass roots effort as 'Astro-Turf'. She accused the participants of exhibiting manufactured rage.

She was cowering in fear, in a back handed attempt to portray the movement as violent, around the same time Patrick Kennedy was sniveling about the movement.

So now, after "The Scott Heard Around the World" she accuses the only political party willing to acknowledge and work with their outraged constituents as 'hijacking' the movement? Sorry Lady you were just too stupid or too arrogant to think that real people matter.

You can't make this up. And it gets better! On the Sunday ABC talk show she said:
The San Francisco Democrat says the tea party coalition shares some common ground with Democrats, such as their dislike of special interests in Washington. She cited public disdain for the recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance that allows companies and unions to spend freely on ads that promote or target particular candidates by name.
What? Are you kidding me (again) ?

This is the part where I fell all the way off of the couch and then went and made a drink. This is like watching an abusive relationship. Nancy Pelosi has "Bitch Slapped" the Tea Party movement for the last year and done so at every opportunity. And now? "No baby, no. I didn't mean it. I love you". You gotta be @#$%^&* kidding me!

The Democrats and the Tea Party don't like special interests? Well? Why is Andy Stern of SEIU is the most frequent guest at the White House? Why is he on the 'Deficit Commission'? Do they not think that the Tea Party sees the Union as the special interest that they are?

Campaign finance ruling? She thinks that the Tea Party is against free speech?
