Wow.

Denial is not a river in Egypt, but it probably is an accurate description of how the White House is feeling right now.

The president really has to be regretting not supporting the Iranian uprising. If only he had and the Iranian government had fallen, this Egyptian uprising would be a welcomed example of another society of people freeing themselves from the shackles of despotism.

But now, since that did not happen, the thought of the Egyptian government is a horrible nightmare that provides an opportunity for Iran to install a Hamas style government. Can you imagine? The Egyptian army under the control of a Muslim Brotherhood inspired Hamas or Hezbollah?

So now, the president, who should have supported the people of Iran, but did not because he thought it would benefit his failed attempts to negotiate Iran away from their nuclear program, is now faced with supporting the popular uprising in Egypt, and moving the Middle East closer to a large scale war.

Israel cannot be sleeping comfortably tonight.

So, yet again, the president of Iran brazenly and openly flaunts the flaccid attempts to deter his country from the pursuit of nuclear weapons. President Obama is not going to get his sanctions (he never wanted or planned for them), and the Iranians are going to get their bomb.

Get Ready for a Nuclear Iran

There is no possibility the Obama administration will use force, despite its confused and ever-changing formulation about the military option always being "on the table." That leaves Israel, which the administration is implicitly threatening not to resupply with airplanes and weapons lost in attacking Iran—thereby rendering Israel vulnerable to potential retaliation from Hezbollah and Hamas.

It is hard to conclude anything except that the Obama administration is resigned to Iran possessing nuclear weapons.

And Iran knows this. That is why they can taunt Obama without fear.

The NPT Illusion

(Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) was in Manhattan to unload on this month's U.N. review conference of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. And unload he did: on the Truman administration, on the Obama administration, on "the Zionist regime," on U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, on the NPT itself. For all this, Iran is still considered a member in good standing of the treaty, entitled to its seat at the International Atomic Energy Agency and its right to the nuclear reactors.

Does this make sense? In the upside-down universe of Turtle Bay—the same one in which Iran was just elected by acclamation to the U.N.'s Commission on the Status of Women—it does. What's stranger is that it also makes sense to President Obama, who has called the NPT the "cornerstone of the world's efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons." If that's the cornerstone, it's no wonder the edifice on top of it is collapsing.

Yet the administration continues to believe that sanctions and diplomacy will work. They lie to the world when they say a nuclear Iran is unacceptable and do absolutely nothing about it.


White House assures skeptics it can still stop Iranian nukes

A top adviser to President Obama said Monday that the White House believes it can push sanctions against Iran through the United Nations in the next few weeks, despite slow going in negotiations and little visible movement since the president himself made a similar forecast more than a month ago.

Nobody believes this lie, yet the state-run-media fiddles while Iran prepares to make Washington burn.

Iran Plans Large-Scale War Games

You can translate this development as a major statement. The Mullah's know that Obama and his followers don't have the stomach to do anything military. This saber rattling  is a dare, a challenge. They have no intention on letting up their full court press to become a nuclear power. They must have found out about Obama's plan to guard us with hope, unity, and the values that bind us.

 Obama has screwed up this diplomatic mission so badly that we have perhaps entered into a no win situation. Iran would love nothing better than to provoke military strikes. It would help them sure up their very serious domestic unrest. So what's a guy who wants to talk with his enemies to do? Especially when they don't talk. Especially when they mock you and dictate terms and rattle their swords knowing that you will do nothing.

Once again, it's the President's move in this political chess game. The President is running low on pawns and I am predicting he is about to castle.

Iran demands West accept counter plan on nuclear program

Iran is now making demands of Obama and the west! Way to go Mr. Engage our enemies!

Iran's foreign minister on Saturday issued an ultimatum to the West: Either renegotiate the United Nations-backed deal on Iran's nuclear program, or the Islamic republic will enrich nuclear fuel on its own.

It turned out exactly like we knew it would, and now Iran is another year closer to producing that nuclear bomb. This type of naivete has not been seen since the Carter administration, and this country has not been seen as weak since the Carter administration.

While other reports stated that the year end deadline was Obamas plan, the CNN state run media piece quoted here blames everyone but the Obama administartion.

Mottaki's comments came two days after Iran failed to meet a year-end deadline to accept a deal offered in October by the "P5 plus one" -- permanent United Nations Security Council members Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States, plus Germany.

Remember well that October was the original deadline, and then when nothing materialized the west offered a sweetheart deal to supply Iran with enrichment services with the end of the year now the deadline. Well, here we are the end of the year and we are exactly where we were the day the Commander in Hope took office.

So what next? After deriding the "failed foreign policy of the Bush administration" can the Obama administration seriously and credibly pursue new sanctions? I guess he can, because state run media won't call him on it. In fact, they'll probably celebrate it as some new ingenious never tried before brilliant idea.

After giving Iran another year to build it's nuclear bomb, and to quell what was a real and nascent democratic movement, it has dawned on the Obama administration that 'reaching out and talking with our enemies' might not be working.

File this one under "No shit Sherlock"!

The beautiful irony here is that then presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had taunted then Candidate Obama about the naivete of extending direct talks to Iran and now Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has to announce to the world that diplomacy is not working. Boy, does she look annoyed! What I want to know is who is she annoyed at? Iran? or Obama? (tee hee hee hee)

I have made this prediction before, and this latest development only reinforces my intuition that Hillary will quit her post in late 2010 or early 2011, and then oppose Obama in a primary for the 2012 election. a la Kennedy vs Carter.

Talking to your enemies: What a difference a year makes; or not

So, after convincing the American electorate that then President Bush's policy of pushing the U.N. for sanctions on Iran because of their efforts towards obtaining nuclear weapons was wrong, jingoistic, mean, and just not the right strategy in a world where diplomacy can solve everything; President Obama just may have learned his first on-the-job lesson. Too bad Iran is another whole year closer to having a nuclear bomb.

The Iranians have played Obama for the fool that he is. The presidents displays of weakness, deference, and his Pollyanna approach to diplomacy has made the situation worse, not better.

The Iranian's have concluded that Obama is weaker and meeker than Jimmy Carter.

The announcement of plans to build 10 more Uranium enrichment facilities is an interesting move. Is this just a hostile threat meant to scare Obama into backing off any efforts to have the U.N. impose more sanctions? Obama clearly communicated that he didn't think sanctions were the way to go, so the threat of making things worse could be an effective attempt to reinforce that idea.

Or is it worse than that? Could Iran have obtained nuclear weapons already? Spreading out the production of your Uranium enrichment production is a smart military move. They know that right now they are completely vulnerable to a military strike that could completely eliminate their enrichment capabilities, so creating more targets to make that happen makes sense. But, why would you announce it to the world? Why wouldn't you just quietly go ahead and do it? Are they trying to provoke the military option? Are they hoping Israel will freak out and bomb their Nanantz nuclear facility, so that they can retaliate with their brand new nuclear missile and remove Israel from the face of the map as they have promised?

This weekends edition of the wall street journal had two good op-ed pieces on the situation. The first piece seemed to mock the Presidents naivete, and arrogant overconfidence more than I did. I loved it!

Dickering Over Uranium

The mullahs so far won't take yes for an answer.

The second piece really went on to make some very good points I did not mention on Friday. It essentially goes on to say that in addition to being embarrassed at the negotiating table, and in addition to passively giving the Iranians nuclear weapons capabilities, Obama is also looking the other way on Iran's human rights violations, and looking the other way on the country's fledgling democratic movement.

I have commented in various posts that I really don't think Obama is a very big fan of democracy anyways. I mean it was great for getting him the power he has now, but other than that, from his point of view, there is too much downside. I mean if democracy was so great, then we would already have a single-payer health care system, right? Honduras trying to preserve their democracy? Obama is not interested. Voter fraud and a new democratic movement in Iran? Definitely not interested!

What?!?!? Voter fraud in Afghanistan! Well whoa, wait one second there pilgrim. We just may have to pack up, head home, and let you die at the hands of the Taliban. I mean at least they were a stable government!

Iran fails to accept UN uranium enrichment plan -AP 

The Obama administration has just officially got their first taste of diplomatic reality. Why they think that their "she-loves-me, she-loves-me-not" strategy is vastly different than what Bush or even Clinton (with North Korea) tried to do is not apparent. And now this administration has reset the clock by handing the Iranians a brand new bouquet of flowers from which to pick the petals. The only possible reason that this administration thought that their negotiations would work over their predecessors is because of their "Hey, it's me, Obama!" mentality.

And now the dance is anew. Playing a card right out of the Narcissist in Chief's playbook, the Iranians warn and woo the President by warning the U.S. to...

refrain from past mistakes in violating agreements and make efforts to win the trust of the Iranian nation

I believe the game of chess originated in Persia. They may not be grand masters, but they are good.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is waiting for a constructive and confidence building response to the clear proposal of buying fuel for the Tehran research reactor

It's not checkmate but it's a clear block to any 'four move checkmate' strategy that Mr Obama thought he might use. The Iranians strategy has been cast. They do not need a checkmate move. They just need to delay, and move some of the pieces from time to time. Their counter offer to buy more Uranium from world supplies is actually brilliant. It diffuses the issue of them trying to yield higher grade uranium, supposedly for their medical reactor, and lets them hang onto their supply of raw un-enriched, but still enrich-able stock pile. What avenue does Obama have now? Repeat the mistakes of the past and implement tougher sanctions (The Bush strategy)? or let Israel have at them?

Iran to Obama: "Kiss my Hamass!"

Almost immediately after the meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu and the President of the United States the government of Iran, and more specifically their President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, sent a shot across the the bow of the ship of state, and Odama's foreign policy. The message was clear; "Don't dare meet with zionists, and then come out and tell the world that the clock is ticking on Iran Mr. B Hussein Obama. We are not afraid of you. We can rattle our sword louder than you can. We know you will not unsheathe your sword, and you will have to wait and see what we do". It was very symbolic to send that message by launching a missile that sailed though the air like an erect middle finger.

Essentially Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told B. Hussein Obama to "kiss my Hamass". So he did. In a speech given today President Obama said

"Our government made decisions based upon fear rather than foresight and all too often trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions,"

"In other words, we went off course."

Which course was that? We went off course from the era of inaction where placing bombs in the garage of the twin towers went unnoticed? The course where Osam bin Laden was able to build a terrorist network, and attack a US Navy ship of war? The course where we were afraid to act on intelligence and kill Osama Bin Laden when we had the chance? The course where they felt comfortable attacking American consulates at will, eventually emboldening them to drive our own commercial jet liners into the World Trade Center? Thank god we didn't stay on that course!

Decisions based on fear? I am very eager to learn about what actions decisions based on bravery will bring us. Then again, I'm not sure it is very brave to come out the day after Iran flexes its muscles and say "We are sorry, we didn't mean it, Bush did it, please don't hurt us, we just want you to like us".

As for closing Gitmo? Fine, whatever. Put the 244 terrorist in regular "Federal POUND ME IN THE A@@ prison". If they didn't like water boarding, lets see how they like prison rape.
