Woody Allen says President Obama should be granted dictatorial powers (seriously)

Woody Allen has a strange take on the democracy that allowed him to become rich and famous.

The "Scoop" director said it would be a cool idea for President Barack Obama to be dictator for for a few years.

Why?

So he could get things done without all the hassle of opposing views getting in the way.

In an interview published by Spanish language newspaper La Vanguardia (that we translated), Allen says “I am pleased with Obama. I think he’s brilliant. The Republican Party should get out of his way and stop trying to hurt him.”

A fascists wet dream! It is hilarious to see the democrats pretend to forget what a filibuster is. Poor things. America does not like what they are doing and it's getting in the way. It belies the very idea that there was ever even an intent for bi-partisanship. "Sit down, shut up, and surrender your right to opposing ideas"

The Fifth Amendment is Miranda

Some of the talk on TV and in the papers has brought the Miranda rights back into discourse. It seemed to start with the controversial reading of Miranda rights to the Christmas Day Underwear Bomber. In this case, someone who was not a citizen and could be easily classified as an enemy combatant was given rights that US citizens may presume. So the controversy is understood. However, some of the discourse has gone into areas of taking away someones citizenship, not reading Miranda rights so that intel may be extracted before a suspect can 'lawyer up'. All this is fine and well if you are not an American citizen. If you are not an American citizen you mat be classified as an enemy combatant, and so you cannot presume to have fifth amendment rights.

The message here is to remember this; if you are a US citizen you have fifth amendment rights. You do not have to wait for someone to read you the Miranda warning. You already have those rights.

Revoking Citizenship?

Be careful here.

There has been talk, and news pieces regarding the possibility of revoking ones citizenship for involvement in terrorist activities. If you are a naturalized citizen, then sure. After all, your desire to become a citizen was a pretense to allow you to perform an act of war. However. if you were born in this country, and you are the child of parents who are legally residing in this country, then citizenship is a birthright that can never be taken away from you involuntarily.

I don't even know to what end this conversation is headed. The thought that Eric holder is going to take away citizenship and water board a terrorist in order to save lives is ridiculous. This administration has expressed a desire to treat truly qualified enemy combatants as citizens who should be tried in civil courts. Why the talk about removing citizenship? I mean what? They are suddenly going to actually deport someone?

This government welcomes and coddles illegal immigrants. It lavishes the rights of citizens onto enemy combatants. And so, we are supposed to believe that they actually place any value on citizenship? Hell, there is a segment of our population who is convinced that our president isn't a citizen!

Be very careful here. If this government grants itself the right to remove you as a citizen, it won't be in the name of protecting other citizens from foreign enemy combatants. It will be an overt attempt to silence the opposition. If you are one of those terrorists defined by homeland security chief Janet Nepolitano, you know, white male returning home from military duty, or if you own a gun, or if you disagree with obamacare, well then you will have earned your right to loose your citizenship, and need to leave the country.

More Populist Rhetoric

In what turns out to be another example of where regulators were unable to regulate, President Obama uses the angry populist rhetoric of moral outrage to change the subject away from what the real problem is.

Obama pledges permit review, end to cozy oil links

Obama decried what he called "a cozy relationship between the oil companies and the federal agency that permits them to drill." But the president, who's announced a limited expansion of offshore drilling that's now on hold, didn't back down from his support for domestic oil drilling, saying it "continues to be one part of an overall energy strategy."

"But it's absolutely essential that, going forward, we put in place every necessary safeguard and protection," he said.

What good is putting safeguards in place if the overpaid lazy government bureaucrats won't use them? That's what we have seen over and over again. The feds didn't use their regulatory powers to nab Bernie Maddoff? They did not use their regulatory abilities to identify AAA rated collateralized debt obligations that were really junk bonds and spurred the mortgage crisis a.k.a recession?  And are we supposed to believe that he can banish cozy relationships like he banished special interests? Probably. Motly because he never did banish special interests. The unions, environmental lobbies, and the tort lobby are not just in play, they rule the day.

"I did not appreciate what I considered to be a ridiculous spectacle during the congressional hearings into this matter. You had executives of BP and Transocean and Halliburton falling over each other to point the finger of blame at somebody else," the president said.

The finger should be pointed at the ever expanding government. The increase in regulations that increases the cost of doing business. And then they increase government staffing levels in order to oversee the ever expanding set of regulations, yet they still never are able to prevent the disasters they intended to prevent.

This is such an embarrassment that the president even threw in a "Haliburton' for good measure. That will get a 'hallelujah' from the faithful.

Nothing to see hear except for the scapegoat evil doers who are trying to fulfill the president promise of energy independence.

Crimmigrents Gone Wild

It is stunning that far flung parts of the country take umbrage with the legal residents of Arizona for trying to protect themselves from violence that is spilling over the border from Mexico. City states such as San Francisco and Boston are contemplating boycotts, embargoes, and sanctions against Arizona for their new law that only enforces federal law already on the books.

Easy for them to say. It is easy to cast aspersions as to how other conduct themselves when you have absolutely no idea what they are going through. Blue state elites malign their desperate acts to keep Arizona families safe while not being able to comprehend the violence and the overflow effects of the drug war taking place just across the border. Not unlike Vietnam and Laos, or even Pakistan and Afghanistan, the effective use of hiding and bouncing back and forth over the border hands an advantage to the criminal and violent organizations seeking refuge from superior forces. This is what is going on in Arizona.

Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County, Arizona decried in a recent radio interview the “emotional” reaction to the immigration situation in his state and encouraged Americans to visit the area and see the challenges his department faces every day. “Just in one patrol region” last month alone, he said, “not one” of the sixty-four drivers who sped away from officers — some of them causing deadly chases — was a U.S. citizen.

"Too bad, shut up and deal with it or feel our wrath" is not a good strategy for the ivory tower set. Instead of a boycott how about sending down some buses and relocating said crimmigrents to your city. Easing the burden of your fellow Americans would be preferred to damning them to untenable conditions.

Palace Politics at the Tea Party

It pains me to report that on the same day that the Tea Party was celebrating a great victory, it suddenly appeared that since the Tea Party is now engaged in electoral politics, the rhetorical politics has quickly ensued.

But Eric Odom, chairman of Liberty First PAC, a Tea Party-fueled political action committee, called Palin's endorsement an "unforgivable sin," and her second strike after endorsing her 2008 running mate John McCain in his Senate race.

"This one is much worse, though," Odom wrote on his blog, arguing that Fiorina is not a "commonsense conservative."

"The first strike was painful, but tolerable," he said. "This second strike is downright confusing, dishonest, and leaves me feeling cheated."

The Tea Party does not need this type of fractious rhetoric. Especially when there is nothing to be gained but schadenfreude by state run media and the political class. On Mr. Odom's blog he attempts to clarify his position.

Two strikes for Sarah Palin…

For the record, we never once claimed that Scott Brown was a conservative. In fact, we said the opposite and made sure it was clear that we believed he was a moderate Republican. We were very honest about the fact that our support in the MA special election was almost solely based on political science and the actual possibility of defeating Martha Coakley for the seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy.

But Palin is not doing that in this particular case. She’s actually claiming that Carly Fiorina is a conservative and representative of the type of person the tea party movement should be electing.

Ummm..... No! Getting rid of Barbara Boxer is just as important as preventing Ted Kennedy's seat from falling into the hands of a Martha Coakley. The political science remains the same. The Tea Party needs to retain it's focus on upending incumbents. Carly Fiorina is a conservative and representative of the type of person the tea party movement should be electing. She is! She is because she can unseat Barbara Boxer.

Get This Party Started!

Apparently those racists in the Tea Party don't like old wrinkly white guys either. It really could not be any more perfect than to have the first political target of the Tea Party, Bob Bennett (R-UT) to retire an incumbent be a republican. To me this sends the clear message that the Tea Party is non-partisan. They are anti-incumbent. If you have been in Washington too long, it is time for you to come home.

The can't win-in-the-press Tea Party will of course now come under fire. It does not matter what they do, the spin is always negative. Instead of being seen as a non-partisan achievement, state run media will declare that this represents an attempt to move the GOP drastically to the right! They are eating their young (or ancient). And if Bob Bennet had not been ousted then the spin would have been that the young party is only good for protesting and has no political muscle, or that they are really just in bed with the GOP.

No matter! The fight goes on! New Jersey, Massachusetts, and now Utah. If you have been in office too long, or if you believe in welfare state socialism we are coming for you.  The smartest thing Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) ever did was to read the tea leaves (pun intended) and decide not to run.

Hard Hat Riot

The Hard Hat Riot was a riot which occurred on May 8, 1970, near the intersection of Wall Street and Broad Street and at New York City Hall. The riot occurred about noon when about 200 construction workers mobilized by the New York State AFL-CIO attacked about 1,000 high school and college students and others protesting the Kent State shootings, the American invasion of Cambodia and the Vietnam War. The riot lasted little more than two hours, and ended of its own accord. More than 70 people were injured, including four policemen. Six people were arrested.

It's also funny to think back to time when unions were anti-communist. But, somethings never change. Violence is still their calling card. All of the violence you have heard about at Tea Parties has been union violence or subversives.

Obama says health care law already helps millions

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama promoted his top domestic priority, which passed Congress with no Republican votes and continues to stir strong emotions nationwide. He acknowledged that many provisions will not take effect for years. But he said others are doing some families good now.

Close your eyes, clear your mind of thoughts, and you will be able see unicorns and universal healthcare nirvana.
What he said:

"Ultimately, we'll have a system that provides more control for consumers, more accountability for insurance companies and more affordable choices for uninsured Americans," Obama said.

What he meant:

Ultimately, we'll have a system that provides more control of consumers, more accountability for insurance companies that still happen to exist, and more affordable choices for end of life counseling.

You can be sure that this weak attempt to win the hearts and minds of the skeptical middle will give way to future fake stories about real people being helped in real ways by Obamacare.

So, yet again, the president of Iran brazenly and openly flaunts the flaccid attempts to deter his country from the pursuit of nuclear weapons. President Obama is not going to get his sanctions (he never wanted or planned for them), and the Iranians are going to get their bomb.

Get Ready for a Nuclear Iran

There is no possibility the Obama administration will use force, despite its confused and ever-changing formulation about the military option always being "on the table." That leaves Israel, which the administration is implicitly threatening not to resupply with airplanes and weapons lost in attacking Iran—thereby rendering Israel vulnerable to potential retaliation from Hezbollah and Hamas.

It is hard to conclude anything except that the Obama administration is resigned to Iran possessing nuclear weapons.

And Iran knows this. That is why they can taunt Obama without fear.

The NPT Illusion

(Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) was in Manhattan to unload on this month's U.N. review conference of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. And unload he did: on the Truman administration, on the Obama administration, on "the Zionist regime," on U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, on the NPT itself. For all this, Iran is still considered a member in good standing of the treaty, entitled to its seat at the International Atomic Energy Agency and its right to the nuclear reactors.

Does this make sense? In the upside-down universe of Turtle Bay—the same one in which Iran was just elected by acclamation to the U.N.'s Commission on the Status of Women—it does. What's stranger is that it also makes sense to President Obama, who has called the NPT the "cornerstone of the world's efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons." If that's the cornerstone, it's no wonder the edifice on top of it is collapsing.

Yet the administration continues to believe that sanctions and diplomacy will work. They lie to the world when they say a nuclear Iran is unacceptable and do absolutely nothing about it.


White House assures skeptics it can still stop Iranian nukes

A top adviser to President Obama said Monday that the White House believes it can push sanctions against Iran through the United Nations in the next few weeks, despite slow going in negotiations and little visible movement since the president himself made a similar forecast more than a month ago.

Nobody believes this lie, yet the state-run-media fiddles while Iran prepares to make Washington burn.
